The Fall of the Berlin Wall also represented a tremendous disruption in the lives of those with an immigration background – they experienced the burgeoning feeling of national identity over the course of the Wende both as welcoming and identificatory, but also as a threatening, hostile factor to a surprising extent.
The interactive performance We Are the Play consolidates documents and the reports of eyewitnesses into a play in which the audience can become the protagonists: in a mediated act of playing that they participate in themselves which they experience themselves and can initiate. The act of playing serves here as a method for rediscovering the past, rethinking, transforming and as a path to each other in the here and now.
We are the Play“ is part of English Theatre Berlin |International Performing Arts Center (ETB | IPAC) - project „25 Jahre Mauerfall or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love the Ossis/Wessis“, a performative examination of German Reunification (August to December 2014).
